Great BBQ And Wine Pairings For Your Party

There are specific days during the year when you want to go out and party. There are also those cozy weekends when you want to host a BBQ party for friends too. If you are spending this day with your closest friends, perhaps you want to serve wine during the occasion as well. Wonder which wines pair well with specific BBQ food? Here is a list to help you with.

General rule with barbecued meat and wine pairings

When you are serving barbecued meat during the party, here is a rule of thumb to follow when serving wine as well. Barbecued meat generally pairs very well with any red wine. The reason for this is that grilled or barbecued meat has high fat and umami which pairs very well with the tannin found in red wine.

Pork barbecue and wine pairings

Meat is anything other than fish and poultry. Wine pairings for barbecued pork will depend on the type of sauce used for marinating and grilling. For your sweet sauce barbecued pork, perfect wine pairings will include Pinotage, Monastrell, Tannat and Petite Sirah. If you have prepared a spicy-mustard sauce, you can pair it with the likes of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Sangiovese or Aglianico. For classic barbecue sauce, you can also choose Cabernet blends like Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

Other types of barbecued meat and wine pairings

If you are serving plain barbecued pork, it will be good to choose Darnacha, Dry Riesling or Port on the Rocks for your wine. You can serve Australian Shiraz, GSM Blend or Tempranillo if you have prepared plain beef brisket. For all other types of barbecued beef and burgers, you can serve Cabernet Franc, Oak-Aged Merlot or Syrah.

Barbecued chicken and fish and wine pairings

For other barbecued dishes like chicken and fish, there are also specific wine pairings to take a look at. If you are grilling chicken, you can pair it well with Grechetto or Sauvignon Blanc. If you choose BBQ chicken, you can also choose to serve White Zinfandel, Off-Dry Riesling or Rose. Meanwhile, if you are serving grilled white fish, White Vinho Verde, Colombard and Friulano are amongst your choices. Last but not the least – for grilled salmon your choices include White Rioja, Punot Noir, Chardonnay and Marsanne blends.

Other choices for barbecue poultry and fish and wine pairings

Sometimes, you may want to spin your barbecue a bit to add more than just the basic salt and pepper to the grill. You may want to add tomatoes, cilantro and lime to fish tacos. When this is the case, you want to lessen the citrusy taste by pairing it with chilled Sauvignon Blanc, Grechetto, Verdejo or the slightly-oaked Sauvignon Blanc called the Fume Blanc. If you are glazing your grilled chicken with apricot jam, it will be a good idea to try Italian Orvieto or Fume Blanc as well. If you want to go on a spicier side on your fish taco, a pleasantly subtle glass of Verdejo will be great to sip on.

Spend the night with friends and family with a great BBQ party whilst serving the perfect wine that goes with what is on the grill. Make sure you do not get drunk during the occasion to make it more fun than usual. Eat your food and sip on your wine whilst telling stories about what has happened to you in the past.  Cap the night with memorable, stress-free thoughts to cherish all your life.
