What Are The Different Cooking Methods For Beef?

To a real chef or to someone who is trying to be a good cook, the ingredients of the recipe are not the only factors that determine the palatability of a dish. One has to bear in mind that for every recipe, there is a particular cut and a part of a whole that is required. Variety in cooking methods is also a must to avoid “food burn-out”. For beef in particular, there are several methods of cooking, each made to satisfy the choosy eater. Its versatility brings it to different ways of being cooked.

Roasting your beef

The most popular method of cooking beef is roasting. This cooking method is one wherein the meat is cooked in an oven without covering it until it becomes well-browned outside whilst maintaining the moisture inside. Top sirloin, tenderloin and top rump are ideal for this cooking method. During roasting, the outside of the meat is cooked first and the heat that penetrates will be enough to cook the deeper layers of the meat. The size of the meat will determine the cooking time and temperature.

Grilling is but another great choice

Beef is also really good for grilling, and it is impossible not to find it as a menu option for any BBQ catering in Markham. This is commonly called a barbecue or kebab. The meat is cut, marinated, skewered and cooked directly over live charcoal or other heat source. Tenderloin is recommended for this as it absorbs flavour easily and is very tender. Rib eye steaks, strip or shell steaks and T-bone cuts can also be used. Usually oil is spread over the grate to prevent sticking. The grill marks will add visual appeal to the meat. Have a spray of bottled water at hand in case unexpected flames will occur.

Broiling cattle meat

Cattle meat is also ideal for broiling. It is cooked directly over hot coals or in a conventional oven. Rib eye steaks, strip or shell steaks and T bone would be good choices. Add seasonings to the beef before broiling since a beef without seasoning and then broiled will not come out with a delectable flavour.

Braising as another popular method

It is also known as pot roast because the meat is allowed to simmer in liquid on low heat in a covered pot for a long time after it has been browned in fat. This is done until the meat is very tender that it almost melts in your mouth. Chuck and rump are the best cuts for this because they contain collagen which requires slow cooking in a liquid medium.

Stewing for the health-conscious

The oil that comes out of the beef sometimes makes the dish unhealthy. To avoid adding oil, stewing is a good way to cook the meat. It is done by barely covering the meat with liquid. It is cooked over low fire in a covered pot until the meat becomes very tender.

Using a skillet for beef cooking

Skillet cooking preserves the juices of the meat. It is done quickly in a small amount of hot oil in a pan with sauce added towards the end. This is also called stir frying and the beef cuts for this are flank, top round and sirloin as these cuts are easily cooked.

Sautéing is yet another great cooking method

Beef can also be cooked through sautéing wherein meat is arranged in a single layer before each piece is turned to brown on both sides. From this cooking method, the sauce is cooked in the pan after the meat. This will make the treat even more delectable.

It is so fascinating to know that you have a list of choices when it comes to cooking beef. With the perfect cut and cooking method, there will be a great recipe to serve your hungry appetite!
