What Should You Do With Your Leftover Barbecue Meat?

Most people who organize barbecue parties often plan them in such a manner that there will be little or no leftovers left after the party. However, this does not always happen, and there are times when you will find that you have quite a bit of meat left over. Some people usually have a hard time figuring out what to do with such leftovers. However, there are many options you can explore depending on your personal needs. Some of these include:

Donating them to the needy

If you are not interested in keeping the meat, you can simply donate it to people who might need it more. For instance, if there is an orphanage close to your home, you could consider dropping it there so that it can benefit other people rather than going to waste. However, there are a few things that you should adhere to make this work. First, it would be wise to contact the institution you are interested in donating to in advance, so that you can find out if it’s okay to do so. There are some that may not accept certain types of food, so asking them in advance is important to avoid them turning it down when you get there.

You should also try to have the food delivered as a matter of urgency. This is so as to ensure that the food does not spoil before it gets to the intended recipients.

Turning it into pet food

Your other alternative would be to use the leftovers as pet food. For instance, if you have a dog and tons of leftover meat, you could cut it into little pieces and possibly cook it again before serving it to your dog. This might introduce a change to the pet’s diet, and will reduce the need for you to throw away the food.

Invite the guests to take some of the food away

Depending on the type of event you had planned, you can also invite some of your guests to carry some of the leftovers in doggy bags. It is important to realize that the application of this method of getting rid of leftover meat can only be used in a limited number of scenarios. The people you are offering the leftovers to should ideally be people you are close to, and the leftovers need to be in good condition. For instance, it would not be rude to ask them to take away pieces of nibbled ribs. You should only offer untouched food for this. In more formal settings such as in a corporate barbecue party, making the same offer might not work, so it’s best to avoid it.

Turn it into other types of food

You can also get the meat and turn it into other types of food that you can cook later. Some ideas that are particularly interesting include:

• Quesadillas: If you have lots of edible leftover chicken, you can cut it into small pieces, and then use it as filling in tortillas to make quesadillas for later consumption.

• Hash: This is made by sautéing mushrooms, potatoes, onions and peppers, and then throwing in some of the leftover meat to form a thick soup. You can top it off with fried eggs if you want to as well.

• Pizza: if you had been making barbecue using barbecue sauce, you can use the leftover meat as a pizza topping. Of course, this also depends on whether you are willing to make your own pizza from scratch or not.

In summary, you don’t need to waste any leftover meat after a barbecue party. There are so many beneficial things you can do with it to avoid any wastage!
