Barbeque And Its Interesting History

The history of barbeque is quite old and it is mostly associated with American cuisine. The word barbeque was first used in the writings in 1672 when John Lederer wrote his travel experience to American Southeast. The experts opine that barbeque does not mean to throw a piece of meat on grill and cook. The real barbeque is the one when a hole is dug in the ground and a wooden structure is placed above the pit. The meat is then placed on the pit where it is cooked for several hours on low heat. Different herbs and spices were added not just to make the food tasty but also to make it a luxury food. Apart from meat, fish and vegetables were also used in the barbeque. The trend of barbeque started in America when Spanish settled in South Carolina. The Spanish basically introduced the pig to the Americans and the American-Indians gave the food a new touch by cooking it on slow heat. It didn’t take much time when pigs were highly popular in food among Americans. As pig meat became available in the region in abundance, people started using it massively for barbeque purpose. Different types of sauces were later introduced that took barbeque to a new level.
