Variations In BBQ Styles

Barbecue is more than just grilling meat. There are regional variations that use different fuels, meats, cooking time and ingredients to produce unique varieties of barbecued foods. Countries across the globe grill food and it’s interesting to see the barbecue style they follow. South America Certain countries in South America use a technique called asado for grilling. This consists of beef and other types of meat cooked together on a grill or over an open fire. The fuel source is charcoal sourced from native trees. North America In North America, the main styles of barbecuing include baking, braising, smoking and grilling. Vinegar and tomato-based sauces are used, the first of which is popular in southeastern US while the latter is commonly associated with the Midwest. Europe Europe, with its many different cultures, employs a variety of barbecue techniques. The Mediterranean regions grill beef, chicken and pita bread with olive oil as the main ingredient while countries in Scandinavia and regions like Germany grill pork, beef, lamb and chicken. South Africa In South Africa, charcoal has replaced wood as the main source of fuel. Barbecuing is a social custom and it’s common to see many people grilling meat and veggies for occasions like weddings, anniversaries and birthdays.
